Our friends and partners at HEART (Humane Education Advocates Reaching Teachers) have just released a new video showcasing their work with these students, who took a 4-hour bus ride to talk to their representatives about issues affecting animals in Illinois, such as puppy mills, dog fighting, and factory farmed animals.
One of the students, Christian Borda, said, "A lot of kids are doubtful about themselves...and whether they can do something or whether they can't do something. But I think any person can do anything for something they're really passionate about."
On the way to talk to their legislators, another student said, "We [kids] have the same power as anyone else has."
Watch the video:
As HEART Chicago Program Director (and IHE M.Ed. graduate), Bob Schwalb, said, "I think what they're going to take away from this is their understanding that they have the ability to make change in the world. The fact that they are able to speak with people who make important decisions on a daily basis, and for them to be able to get in front of those individuals, and tell them exactly what they want from them to make the world a better place, is by far the biggest take away that they're going to have."
Kids have the hunger and the power to be amazing changemakers, when we provide them with the resources, knowledge, and support.
