Humane Educators' Toolbox: Zinn Education Project

If you teach any form of U.S. history or social studies, run to your computer now, look up the Zinn Education Project, bookmark it, and refer to it frequently. A joint project of our friends at Rethinking Schools and Teaching for Change, the project website offers dozens of downloadable activities and resources -- organized by theme and time period -- focused on introducing students "to a more accurate, complex, and engaging understanding of United States history than is found in traditional textbooks and curricula."

Whether your students are studying economics, war, slavery, democracy, or global studies; whether the focus is colonization, World War II, or the 20th century, there is something useful for your classroom. And many of the materials use photos, fiction, songs, stories, role plays, and other creative means to explore important issues.

You do have to create a free account to access the materials.

Find out more.
